After many years of protecting animals locally, Catalina seized the opportunity in spring 2020 to set up a new sanctuary of her own on a piece of land near Bucharest, in Tunari. With the help of a team of four, which from then on became known as Hope for Catas Strays, her dream became a reality: to provide all the animals in need with a roof over their heads, full bellies and medical help.
In view of the great need, the shelter quickly became too small, so we opened a second sanctuary on an adjacent piece of land: Safe Haven – a safe haven for animals.
Both shelters are now home to 450 to 500 dogs, around 30 cats and even a horse and a pig.
The Hope for Catas Strays team not only takes care of the animals in the rescue centres, but also feeds strays in the surrounding area and organizes neutering programmes.
Out of a deep love for animals and a desire to improve their lives, Catalina, the founder of our veterinary practice, took the initiative to set up a rescue center more than ten years ago. With her many years of experience in veterinary medicine and her boundless compassion for unsupported animals, she wanted to create a place where all living creatures receive the best possible care.
Today, Animal Aid International, alongside the two shelters, is the result of this vision. A team of dedicated and passionate veterinarians work together to ensure the health and welfare of the animals in our community.

Our social commitment
We are heavily involved in our community and continually advocate for the responsible adoption, neutering and vaccination of pets. In cooperation with local organizations and volunteers, we support the protection of stray animals and help to find loving homes for them.
